My name is Kevin Watkins and I am a full time professional wedding photographer based in Arundel West Sussex. With over twenty years of dedicated experience in wedding photography, I offer the perfect blend of both modern and traditional styles.
At the ripe old age of 42, I am happily married with two children, Ben who is fifteen and Aimee who is eleven. We live in a little village called Yapton, situated between Arundel, Chichester, Bognor Regis and Littlehampton in West Sussex. I have always loved photography, so naturally it was my first career choice. At just fifteen I managed to gain a work experience position at a local wedding and portrait studio in Bognor Regis, and having spent a week or so with them I was offered a permanent position when I left school. I spent a couple of years with them, covering all aspects from weddings and portraits to commercial and social events. I then studied at Northbrook College in Worthing to gain the City & Guilds certificate in professional photography before moving on to another studio specialising in commercial and industrial photography. After spending another couple of years there and gaining a vast experience in medium and large format film photography, I felt it was time to go it alone. Initially shooting weddings at the weekends, I progressed to become a full time self employed professional wedding photographer back in 2001.
The industry has changed dramatically in this time, not just in the equipment we use but clients preferring the more informal style of social photography. There are many new faces in the industry these days, but I feel that my vast experience, not only in traditional methods but in the latest digital imaging and processing techniques, allows me to offer the perfect blend of both modern and traditional styles. Wedding photography is my passion, my speciality and so much more than just a job. I truly enjoy every wedding as much as the couple themselves and give absolutely 100% to each and every one of them.
I strongly believe that a wedding should be photographed without compromise, I have a wealth of experience and the latest professional equipment and products to capture your precious memories. I am recommended by some of the most exclusive wedding venues in Sussex including Amberley Castle, Bailiffscourt, The Walled Garden at Cowdray and Upwaltham Barns to name just a few. I am more than happy to photograph civil partnerships and have a separate area of the website devoted to specifically to civil partnership photography.
"Dear Kevin. WOW WOW WOW. just looked at the photos and they are amazing. You managed to capture every detail and each and every picture is alive. Thank you so much for these pictures which will forever tell the story of the most beautiful day of our lives. Not only are the pictures stunning but you personally were so lovely to have around, you were not only professional but lots of fun and very friendly. On such a day it is so important to have a photographer who absolutely knows what to do where to do it and how to do it, just everybody said how charming you were and everybody has commented on the beautiful prints you have produced. We cannot thank you enough! Love Natasha and Andrew"
"Kevin photographed our wedding in September and he was completely brilliant. He arrived promptly in the morning and instantly made us feel at ease. He was friendly to everyone and was never pushy, even when he had to coordinate all the big group shots. We aren’t natural posers at all but he made it seem completely natural. The weather wasn’t great but Kevin knew how to work around it to get amazing shots. He was also great at getting some beautiful natural pictures of the guests when they didn’t know he was there! He stayed later than he needed to and also sent the link to the photos very soon after the wedding which was brilliant. We are so completely thrilled with the finished photos, we can’t stop looking at them. We’d recommend Kevin to everyone. He is everything you would look for in a wedding photographer – professional, friendly, and he really knows how to get the most beautiful pictures. Katherine & Andy"
How long have you been a photographer?
Well I actually started taking serious photographs at around the age of ten or so. At just fifteen I worked as a photographers assistant at a photographic portrait studio in Bognor Regis, initially on Saturdays before going full time with them at sixteen. I shot my first wedding as a self employed photographer at the age of just nineteen, so well over 20 years now. I also photographed family portraits, both in the studio and out on location before then too.
What areas do you cover?
I mainly cover West Sussex, East Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and Kent. I don't charge any extra for travel within these counties. If you are getting married further afield, please get in touch to dicuss your requirements.
What equipment do you use?
Although I believe photography is not all about the camera, I do use what I consider to be the best available equipment for the job. I currently use Canon 5D MarkIII cameras and a range of fast prime and zoom lenses. This set up is probably the most common among top end professional wedding photographers and portrait photographers at the moment.
Do you have back up equipment?
Absolutely, I carry enough equipment to cover almost any eventuality. My cameras also save an identical duplicate copy of every image taken onto a separate memory card, so even in the unlikely event of a card failure, your images remain safe.
How much time do you spend on each wedding?
Well depending on package anything from 4 days to 5 days in total, per wedding. This includes general administration, pre wedding meeting and general correspondence, pre wedding shoot (if applicable) and processing, travel time, equipment preparation, the wedding day itself, back ups and archiving, editing, extensive post production, web gallery and USB production, print ordering, album design, proofing, production, delivery and more..
Are you insured?
Yes, I am insured for public liability and can provide my policy number or certificate if your venue requires if before the big day.
What will you wear at our wedding?
I always wear a suit unless the weather is really hot, then I will wear a smart (and plain colour) shirt and trousers. I feel it is very important to be smart, polite and to fit in with your guests.
What if you are ill on the day?
I would have to break both legs not to turn up! Joking apart, I love my job and am completely dedicated to my business. I have never been unable to attend a wedding in well over 20 years, however I have a network of photographers I could call upon to help out in case of an emergency.
Do we get all of the images?
You will get all of the images after editing and digital processing, so there will be no 'blinks or sneezes' in there, just fabulous images you will treasure forever.
How many photographs will we get and how big can we print them?
You will receive well over 400 images, the average being around 600 and you can print them as large as you wish, but I would ask that you contact me for advise on how to get the best image quality if you are going any bigger than 12x8 inches. I also ask that you use a decent lab and ensure that no automatic adjustments are made to the files whenever possible.
Do you require feeding on the day?
Not at all, I always bring my own refreshments, however if there is the offer of a bite to eat I won't say no!
Can we have black and white and colour photos?
Yes, I usually do a mixture of each. If you want more or less black and white or colour effects just let me know before the wedding. I will also shoot weddings completely in colour, completely black and white or provide all of the images in both.
Can we have vintage styles added to our photographs?
Absolutely, I am more than happy to shoot and process your wedding in a vintage style. If you browse though my real wedding galleries you will find several weddings which have been done this way.
What and when do we pay?
There is a booking fee of £295 which is required to secure the date, the remainder of your chosen package is then due two weeks before the wedding.
This all sounds great, can we book you for our wedding?
I really hope you enjoy browsing my website, which I have designed and built to be fast loading and highly informative. You can be assured that there are no fabricated galleries of friends or models, nothing from training days or from second shooting with another photographer, just real people and their fabulous weddings... photographed by me. If you have any questions regarding my services please feel free to get in touch today.
