My name is Kevin Watkins and I am a full time professional wedding photographer based in West Sussex. With over twenty years of dedicated experience in wedding photography, I offer the perfect blend of both modern and traditional styles.
At the ripe old age of 41, I am happily married with two young children, Ben who is fourteen and Aimee who is ten. We live in a little village called Yapton, situated between Arundel, Chichester, Bognor Regis and Littlehampton in West Sussex. I have always loved photography, so naturally it was my first career choice. At just fifteen I managed to gain a work experience position at a local wedding and portrait studio in Bognor Regis, and having spent a week or so with them I was offered a permanent position when I left school. I spent a couple of years with them, covering all aspects from weddings and portraits to commercial and social events. I then studied at Northbrook College in Worthing to gain the City & Guilds certificate in professional photography before moving on to another studio specialising in commercial and industrial photography. After spending another couple of years there and gaining a vast experience in medium and large format, I felt it was time to go it alone. Initially shooting weddings at the weekends before going full time back in 2001.
The industry has changed dramatically in this time, not just in the equipment we use but clients preferring the more informal style of social photography. There are many new faces in the business these days, but I feel that my vast experience, not only in traditional methods but in the latest digital imaging and processing techniques allows me to offer the perfect blend of both modern and traditional styles. Wedding photography is my passion, my speciality and so much more than just a job. I truly enjoy every wedding as much as the couple themselves and give absolutely 110% to each and every one of them.
I strongly believe that a wedding should be photographed without compromise, I have a wealth of experience and the latest professional equipment and products to capture your precious memories. I am recommended by some of the most exclusive wedding venues in Sussex including Amberley Castle, Bailiffscourt and Upwaltham Barns to name just a few. I am more than happy to photograph civil partnerships and have a separate area of the website devoted to specifically to civil partnership photography.
"Dear Kevin. WOW WOW WOW. just looked at the photos and they are amazing. You managed to capture every detail and each and every picture is alive. Thank you so much for these pictures which will forever tell the story of the most beautiful day of our lives. Not only are the pictures stunning but you personally were so lovely to have around, you were not only professional but lots of fun and very friendly. On such a day it is so important to have a photographer who absolutely knows what to do where to do it and how to do it, just everybody said how charming you were and everybody has commented on the beautiful prints you have produced. We cannot thank you enough! Love Natasha and Andrew"
How long have you been a photographer? ..Well I actually started taking serious photographs at around the age of ten or so. At just fifteen I worked as a photographers assistant at a photographic portrait studio in Bognor Regis, initially on Saturdays before going full time with them at sixteen. I shot my first wedding as a self employed photographer at the age of just nineteen, so well over 20 years now. I also photographed family portraits, both in the studio and out on location before then too.
What equipment do you use? ..Although I believe photography is not all about the camera, I do use what I consider to be the best available equipment for the job. I currently use Canon 5D MarkIII cameras and a range of fast prime and zoom lenses. This set up is probably the most common among top end professional wedding photographers and portrait photographers at the moment.
Do you have back up equipment? ..Absolutely, I carry enough equipment to cover almost any eventuality. My cameras also save an identical duplicate copy of every image taken onto a separate memory card, so even in the unlikely event of a card failure, your images remain safe.
How much time do you spend on each wedding? ..Well depending on package anything from 3 days to 5 days per wedding. This includes general administration, pre wedding meeting and or correspondence, travel time, equipment preparation, the wedding day itself, back ups and archiving, editing, extensive post production, web gallery and USB production, print ordering, album design, proofing, production, delivery and more..
Are you insured? ..Yes I am insured for public liability.
What will you wear at our wedding? ..I always wear a suit and tie, as I feel it is very important to be smart, polite and to fit in with your guests.
What if you are ill on the day? ..I would have to break both legs not to turn up! Joking apart, I love my job and am completely dedicated to my business. I have never been unable to attend a wedding or in over 20 years, however I have a network of photographers I could call upon to help out in case of an emergency.
Do we get all of the images? ..You will get all of the images after editing and digital processing, so there will be no ‘blinks or sneezes’ in there, just fabulous images you will treasure forever.
Do we receive any prints or is it just the image files? ..Both of my package options include 100 prints of your choice in 9×6 inches. I feel it is important for you to see the quality of your images when printed professionally. All of your images are individually colour corrected on a calibrated display during post production, and should be printed without any automatic adjustments being made. Every computer screen will be slightly (more often drastically) inaccurate for colour, sharpness and brightness, so having high quality prints is a must. My system is calibrated using a high quality colorimeter and a new colour profile is created on a weekly basis to ensure optimum quality and accurate results.
Do you require feeding on the day? ..Not at all, I always bring my own refreshments, however if there is the offer of a bite to eat I won’t say no!
Can we have black & white and colour photos? ..Yes, I usually do a mixture of each. If you want more or less black & white or colour effects just let me know before the wedding. I will also shoot weddings completely in black & white or colour if you wish.
Is there a pre wedding session or engagement shoot? ..Yes, there is a pre wedding shoot included with both of my packages. My pre wedding shoot includes all of the processed images on USB memory stick, so you are free to make your own prints or ‘save the date’ cards etc.
What and when do we pay? ..There is a booking fee of £295 which is required to secure the date, the remainder of your chosen package is then due two weeks before the wedding. So if you book my popular ‘Option One’ collection for 2014 at £1795 including all day attendance, your finished images on USB memory stick, 100 9×6 professional prints of your choice, personal online gallery & stunning ‘Storybook’ wedding album. You would pay the booking fee of £295 when you book, then £1500 two weeks before the big day.
Can we pay by Credit or Debit card? ..Yes, you can pay by cash, cheque, direct bank transfer, credit or debit card. There are no additional fee’s for using a credit card to pay for your wedding photography. Some couples like to pay instalments which is absolutely fine provided the full balance is paid 14 days before the wedding.
How many photographs will we get and how big can we print them? ..You will receive over 400 images, the average being around 600 and you can print them up to 12×8 inches. If you know what you are doing you can print them much larger, but I would ask that you contact me for instructions on how to get the best image quality. I also ask that you use a decent lab and ensure that no automatic adjustments are made to the files.
This all sounds great, can we book you for our wedding? ..Absolutely, just as long as I am available on your date! Once you have checked my availability you can book your wedding here I also advise we meet at some point before the wedding to run through the details, this can be before or after you have secured the date. I am happy to come to you, or meet with you at your wedding venue if you prefer.
I really hope you enjoy browsing my website, which I have designed to be fast loading and highly informative. You can be assured that there are no fabricated galleries of friends or models, nothing from trainings days or from second shooting with another photographer, just real people and their fabulous weddings... photographed by me. If you have any questions regarding my services please feel free to get in touch, I would love to speak to you.

"Kevin photographed our wedding in September and he was completely brilliant. He arrived promptly in the morning and instantly made us feel at ease. He was friendly to everyone and was never pushy, even when he had to coordinate all the big group shots. We aren’t natural posers at all but he made it seem completely natural. The weather wasn’t great but Kevin knew how to work around it to get amazing shots. He was also great at getting some beautiful natural pictures of the guests when they didn’t know he was there! He stayed later than he needed to and also sent the link to the photos very soon after the wedding which was brilliant. We are so completely thrilled with the finished photos, we can’t stop looking at them. We’d recommend Kevin to everyone. He is everything you would look for in a wedding photographer – professional, friendly, and he really knows how to get the most beautiful pictures. Katherine & Andy"
